DTS Brings Premium Immersive Audio to the new Cineum Cannes Theater
DTS® announced today the installation of DTS:X® immersive audio technology at the new Cineum Cannes multiplex in Cannes, France.
DTS:X Immersive Audio provides best possible immersive audio experience at iconic new location in Cannes, France
Cineum Cannes, designed by the architect Rudy Ricciotti, houses 12 state-of-the-art screens and over 2400 seats. DTS:X provides the complex’s immersive audio across the multiplex’s “Aurore” Premium Large Format screen, its ScreenX 270º experience, its VIP private theater and four standard movie screens. The integrated DTS:X technology enables filmmakers to create richer soundscapes by moving sound objects in front of, behind, above and beside the audience, precisely where the mixer places them, providing a true-to-life experience for Cannes Film Festival goers.
“We’re pleased to continue our relationship with DTS to bring the best possible immersive audio experience to our latest iconic multiplex location in Cannes,” said Philippe Borys-Combret, owner and CEO of Cineum Cannes. “Cannes is the home of the one of the most important film festivals in the world, and DTS was the natural audio partner for us when we decided to build our new cinema.”
“Working with the Cineum team to bring our DTS:X technologies to audiences in Cannes has been a defining moment as cinema makes a comeback after the pandemic,” said Loren Nielsen, vice president, Content & Strategy, Xperi. “DTS is proud to continue to support theaters around the globe with the latest immersive audio technology and a slate of content including titles like “F9: The Fast Saga,” “Le Tour du Monde en 80 Jours”, “Eiffel,” “The Suicide Squad” and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.”
“What a joy to listen to the DTS:X soundtracks in the magnificent immersive theaters at Cineum Cannes,” said Didier Lozahic, sound engineer and mixer for cinema and expert in surround sound (“Valérian and the City of a Thousand Planets” and numerous feature films by Luc Besson). “This is a major breakthrough for us cinema technicians with impressive sound and image, in great comfort. Particularly in the PLF AURORE room, which has exceptional sound reproduction that I have only too rarely heard before in an immersive theater”.
Since its debut in August 2015, DTS:X has enjoyed worldwide adoption by major Hollywood motion picture studios, cinema owners and mixing stages. To date, more than 300 theatrical titles have been released and exhibited with a DTS:X soundtrack, over 1100 screens around the world have installed or are committed to add DTS:X, and more than 120 world-class mixing stages in 15 countries have installed DTS:X production tools.
DTS:X cinema certification ensures that the presentation is true to the filmmaker’s intent. Certification is achieved by complying with the DTS:X installation guidelines and installing DTS:X-capable equipment available from industry-leading server, sound rendering/processor companies and speaker manufacturers, including GDC Technology, QSC, ADDE Audio, Delair Labs, DK Audio, Elipson, JBL, KCS, Klipsch, Meyer Sound and Trinnov.
