DTS, Inc. develops the technology to provide premium audio solutions for high-definition entertainment experiences - anytime, anywhere, on any device. DTS technology is incorporated by hundreds of licensee customers around the world and allows the delivery and playback of clear, immersive audio for listeners in more than two billion devices.
In 1993, DTS introduced its master-quality sound with the release of Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster, “Jurassic Park,” and motion picture sound was changed forever. Its innovative digital process quickly established DTS as a leader in providing premium, discrete multi-channel audio for cinema. In 1996, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognized DTS with a Scientific and Engineering Award for the Design and Development of the DTS Digital Sound System for Motion Picture Exhibition.
DTS entered the consumer products market in 1996 with a scalable digital audio architecture suitable to a broad spectrum of consumer and pro audio products and multimedia formats. Today, DTS audio technology is integrated in car audio systems, digital media players, DVD players, video game consoles, home theaters, PCs, set–top boxes, smartphones, surround music content and every device capable of playing Blu–ray discs.
In early 2015, DTS unveiled DTS:X, its open, next-generation, immersive, multi-dimensional audio technology. DTS:X replicates a real-world sound environment that transports the audience into a new level of sound immersion by delivering truly captivating entertainment experiences in the cinema and at home. The technology provides numerous customization options for cinema and home theater owners, and allows for a flexible speaker configuration that best fits the viewing space to more accurately convey the fluid movement of sound to create a richer entertainment soundscape than has previously been possible. In addition to widespread AVR manufacturer adoption, most major movie studios release films for theatrical exhibition in DTS:X around the world.
In October 2015, DTS acquired iBiquity Digital Corporation, the exclusive developer and licensor of HD Radio technology, the sole FCC-approved method for upgrading AM/FM broadcasting from analog to digital. HD Radio technology provides compelling benefits, including improved audio quality, expanded content choices and new digital data services such as album cover art and real-time traffic updates. iBiquity’s partners include leading automakers, consumer electronics and broadcast equipment manufacturers, radio broadcasters, semiconductor and electronic component manufacturers and retailers. The Company’s technology is available in most major car brands and models sold in the United States.
